Jeffrey Washeck

I wanted to be an arborist from the day I learned the job existed. At 18, I was dragging brush on a tree crew by day and reading every tree book I could find at my local used bookshop by night.

My formal training came from a large international tree company, where I learned to work to ANSI A300 pruning standards and ANSI Z133 safety standards. I made crew foreman by 23 and later became the go-to trainer for crews across my region, because learning something well and passing it on is what I enjoy most!

The field was my classroom. I climbed and ran aerial lifts on every kind of job, from backyards and utility lines to hurricane recovery and felling trees in the Rocky Mountains. Over those years I saw thousands of trees thrive, decline and fail, and I learned to read the patterns behind them.

That’s what led me into consulting. A tree’s problems often run deeper than what you can see. Many pests and diseases are opportunistic, going after trees that are already stressed, so treating the problem means finding out why the tree was stressed in the first place. Decay can be just as hidden, with early signs that are subtle and easy to miss until it becomes a safety issue. I keep digging until I understand the whole tree, its health and its risk, not just the symptoms.

I earned my ISA Arborist Certification in 2018 and my Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) in 2021, the same year I launched Sigma Tree Consulting. I’m always working toward the next credential. Today, with 20 years in the tree industry, I help homeowners, HOAs, developers and property managers across Central Florida understand their trees and make confident decisions about them.

Outside of work, family comes first. You’ll find me gardening with my wife, gaming with my daughter, at the gym, or out traveling.

Philosophy of tree care

In our urban environments, trees offer numerous benefits, enhancing the beauty and value of our landscapes. However, they can also pose significant liabilities if neglected or improperly maintained.

Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed firsthand the consequences of inadequate tree care and the costly mistakes that can arise. That’s why I firmly believe in the importance of proactive care and informed decision-making.

Navigating the world of tree care can be daunting, especially with so much conflicting information out there. I’m committed to providing accurate, expert guidance to help you make informed decisions about your trees.

By consulting with an arborist before undertaking any tree-related project, you can avoid costly mistakes and unnecessary expenses and fees. My goal is to give you the knowledge and resources needed to protect the health, safety, and longevity of your trees.
